Climbing Kazbek from the North (Russia)
The peak of Mount Kazbek is one of the highest in the Caucasus (5033 m) and is located on the border of North Ossetia-Alania and Georgia. This makes climbing Kazbek from the north a twice as interesting journey: having visited the summit itself, you actually step with one foot into another state. The famous fivethousander of Caucasus attracts climbers, dreamers and athletes all year round. The mount itself is an extinct stratovolcano, located on the border of Russia and Georgia, in North Ossetia. From its top you can see extraordinary landscapes of the Caucasus Mountains and even Elbrus.
